Dear Parents/Guardians,

Garnet Valley School District supports programming to ensure a safe and caring school environment. Through our developmental guidance program, social thinking initiatives, Olweus anti-bullying program, Aevidum student group, Student Assistance Program (SAP), as well as our daily interactions with students, we educate our students about pro-active and reactive strategies to guide them through the challenges they encounter. Through these district programs we empower students and families to communicate and report unexpected incidents and experiences to school staff.

As an additional support, Garnet Valley is trialing a new communication tool called Anonymous Alerts®. Anonymous Alerts® allows students or parents to anonymously report information to school administrators. The system is an anonymous vehicle for students and/or parents to confidentially report bullying, cyberbullying, and other sensitive topics through private messages to school administrators. The function of the app is not to replace our current reporting system but to enhance it with the ability to report anonymously if the reporter is not comfortable with the traditional reporting systems such as face-to-face, email, and telephone.

How do I place an incident report from Internet connected computers/tablets?

The mobile apps and web-based reporting system provides secure 1-way or 2-way encrypted messages to school administrators. Message topics for submission may include bullying, cyber-bullying, family difficulties, drug and alcohol abuse, student depression, sexual harassment, or suspicious/erratic student behavior. Please note this system is not a hotline and should not be used to report life threatening issues such as suicidal thoughts or threats. Additionally, fraudulent reports can and will be submitted to the appropriate authorities.

All reports remain completely anonymous to administrators, although submitters have the option to enter contact information if they prefer to have a person-to-person discussion. By entering an e-mail address or SMS capable phone number, submitters can establish anonymous 2-way communications™ with a school administrator about an incident. Identifiable information will not be revealed unless the submitter chooses to make it known.

We are encouraged to offer this constructive tool to our community and look forward to its positive impact on our students’ safety. At the Garnet Valley School District, our goal is to enhance each student’s learning experience and provide a safe and caring environment.

Sincerely,

Garnet Valley School District
