1-7-2022 weather closing

Dear School Community,

All schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 7, 2022. In addition to our school closures, our Test-to-Stay program will not operate again until Monday, January 10th. I realize that my last snow call was a “swing and a miss,” however, tomorrow’s forecast is more definitive and calls for significant precipitation. Additionally, with so many local districts closing, we have a concern that our staffing could be negatively impacted. Finally, and probably most importantly, a day off from school gives the district an additional day leading into the weekend to allow those who are infected, and the newly infected, time to isolate without missing more face-to-face instruction. Conclusively, closing schools tomorrow will allow us to eliminate these concerns altogether.

Some have asked why we have not used a virtual day yet. As you may recall, the plan that we articulated at the beginning of the year stated that we will use our 4 built-in snow days prior to scheduling a virtual day.

Despite the weather, I feel that this week served as an important transition into the second half of the school year. As we expected, positive cases are surging throughout the region, and our students, employees, and families continue to do a great job working together to keep one another safe and our schools open.

Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marc Bertrando, Superintendent
