🦅 Garnet Valley is proud to recognize two outstanding GVHS students, Matthew L. Hays and Tyler M. Hays, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout!
Matthew, a 10th-grade student and member of Troop 260, is the troop’s 116th Eagle Scout. For his service project, Matthew raised more than $2,000 and led Scouts and volunteers in contributing 160 hours to expand the community garden at St. Cornelius Church in Chadds Ford. The improvements will help the garden provide more fresh produce to the Dorothy Day Room food pantry and serve even more members of the community.
Tyler, a 12th-grade student and member of Troop 260, is the troop’s 117th Eagle Scout. For his project, Tyler restored a campsite at Clayton Park, raising more than $1,000 and leading a team of 20 volunteers in 160 hours of work. The project included a new flagpole, rebuilt picnic tables, an improved fire pit area, and permanent log seating.
Congratulations to Matthew and Tyler on these remarkable accomplishments! Their leadership, dedication, project management, and commitment to service reflect the very best of the Garnet Valley community.

We are working with students in our schools to help them recognize suspicious messages, avoid unsafe links and attachments, and know when to stop and ask an adult for help.
Families can help reinforce these same habits at home:
• Be cautious of unexpected messages, especially those involving money, prizes, purchases, or personal information.
• Do not click suspicious links or open unexpected attachments.
• Be wary of messages that create urgency or pressure you to act quickly.
• Never share passwords or personal information through an unexpected message.
• When something does not look right, stop and ask a trusted adult before responding.
One of the most important digital safety habits we can teach students is simple: slow down, think, and verify before you click.

In Garnet Valley, purposeful technology use means choosing the right tool, at the right time, for the right reason. Sometimes that is an iPad or computer. Other times it is a book, pencil, conversation, hands-on activity, time with classmates, or simply putting the device away.
Through Screen Smart GV, we are continuing to think carefully about how we help students develop healthy and responsible technology habits at school. Families are an important part of that work too.
One simple way to continue the conversation at home is to create a Family Technology Agreement together.
Talk with your children about when devices should be put away, expectations around bedtime and meals, appropriate apps and social media, online safety, and how technology fits alongside sleep, exercise, reading, hobbies, friendships, and family time.
