National Art Honor Society

NAHS-national-arts-honor-society-gvhs

The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) was formed in 1978 by the National Art Education Association (NAEA) to recognize students who have shown outstanding effort in the visual arts.

The purpose of this chapter is to recognize those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art, to foster the creative abilities and talents of the society’s members, and to bring art to the attention of the school and community. We achieve this through various school and community service projects.

The criteria to become an eligible member of the Garnet Valley National Art Honor Society, Chapter #1698 for one school year are: 1. Members must complete one credit in visual arts and maintain a 90% or above in all art courses; 2: Students must maintain good citizenship (no Saturday detentions, suspensions, and no more than 1 school detention).

To remain a member, students are required to elect a full credit of art each year, maintain a 90% or above in all art courses, continue good citizenship, attend all meetings, and complete a minimum of ten hours of art-related community service with our planned activities by May.

Students who have been an active member for two years are eligible to wear a “cord of distinction” at graduation.
