🌕 Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🌕
As the moon reaches its fullest and brightest tonight, we are thrilled to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with all of you. This beautiful festival is not just a Chinese tradition but is also celebrated in various forms across East and Southeast Asia.
🌙 Why We Celebrate
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most significant holidays in Chinese culture, rivaling the importance of the Chinese New Year. Originating over 3,000 years ago, the festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar.
This usually corresponds to mid-September to early October in the Gregorian calendar. On this day, it is believed that the moon is at its brightest and fullest, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of Autumn.
📚 Educational Spotlight
The festival is rich in symbolism and tradition. Lanterns of various sizes and shapes are carried and displayed, serving as beacons that light the path to prosperity and good fortune. Mooncakes, a special pastry filled with ingredients like sweet-bean, egg yolk, meat, or lotus-seed paste, are traditionally consumed. The festival is rooted in the legend of Chang'e, the Moon goddess in Chinese mythology.
We wish our entire Garnet Valley school community a joyful and enlightening Mid-Autumn Festival!
