COMMENCEMENT

Monday, June 10

The Bob Carpenter Center, U of D 4:00

(Doors open at 3:15 PM)  Graduates report at 2:45 PM.

You will culminate your activities at Commencement Ceremonies at the Bob Carpenter Center.  Make this an impressive ceremony for your family, friends, and loved ones.  For those unable to attend, we will be providing a link for Live Streaming.  We extend our wishes for an enjoyable Commencement and much success in the future.

OBLIGATIONS - All financial, non-academic, discipline and academic obligations to the school must be met before receiving your graduation tickets, deadline is June 2nd.  Only seniors who have settled all obligations will be permitted to practice.

COMMENCEMENT ATTIRE – Students should use the following guidelines for appropriate attire under their graduation gowns for both events.  Boys must wear a dress shirt and tie.  We suggest a white shirt, a dark tie, and dark shoes.  Boots or sneakers are not permitted.    Girls should wear light colored dresses and dress shoes. Please watch the height of your heels.

COMMENCEMENT PRACTICES - Your job is not an excuse to miss practice.   All seniors are scheduled to be at every Commencement rehearsal and at Commencement for attendance requirements.    PRACTICE DOES NOT START UNTIL ALL OBLIGATIONS ARE MET AND ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE PRESENT.

TICKETS -  Please be advised that the University of Delaware has mandated all schools using the Bob Carpenter Center for graduations to use tickets provided by the university only.  In the past, we have printed 10 tickets for each graduate, knowing that every family would not use all ten and we would remain under the venue’s seating capacity (approx. 3700, not including graduates and staff). These new tickets will be barcoded and scanned into a system, by UD staff, for entry.  As a result, and in an effort to have precise ticket needs, we have sent a Google Form through your student’s GVSD email account to collect your exact ticket requests.  Only students can submit responses.  We ask that you only request the number of tickets that you actually need.  Please note that your response is required by Friday, May 10.  Tickets will be sent home with your graduate when they pick up their yearbook, cap & gown.  Thank you in advance for your attention and cooperation in this matter.

  1. The University of Delaware will be weapon checking everyone who enters the building to include staff, graduates, and guests.

  2. You are asked to conduct yourself in an orderly fashion during Commencement.  Many of you have family and relatives coming from great distances.  We are certain that you will want them to see an outstanding program at Commencement.

  3. All school regulations are to be followed.  Any serious offense will be cause for removal from the Graduation Ceremony.  Teachers and administrators will be stationed at points in and around the graduation class to ensure proper behavior during the ceremony.  Do not embarrass yourself or your family with cause for your removal.

Please be reminded that decorum on the part of the audience is vital for our dignified commencement.  No balloons are permitted in the Carpenter Center.  Posters, horns, and noisemakers should be reserved for private celebrations and not be used in the Carpenter Center.

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES AND THE ELDERLY ATTENDING THE GRADUATION CEREMONY:

Special on-floor seating and drop-off locations in the lobby of the Bob Carpenter Center will be available for persons with physical disabilities and for the elderly.  Arrangements for the disabled seating areas and parking do not need to be made in advance.  Guests who need to access these areas should notify ushers upon arrival at the Bob Carpenter Center.  ***PLEASE NOTE:  IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT AND THE UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE POLICY, ON-FLOOR SEATING AREAS ARE RESERVED FOR THE PERSON IN NEED OF THE DISABLED SEATING ACCOMPANIED BY ONE GUEST ONLY.

Helpful Hints for Getting the Best Possible View of Your Graduate!

The stage will be set up in the East end of “The Bob”.  Spectators will be seated in both the north and the south stands.  Our graduates will proceed from the west end of the gym—half will walk directly in front of the north stands and half directly in front of the south stands— and they will be able to tell you after practice, from which side they will enter.  The graduates will sit in the center of the court, facing east. To receive their diploma, all graduates will walk across the stage from south to north.

AFTER THE CEREMONY, THE GRADUATES WILL BE USHERED DIRECTLY INTO THE PARKING LOT, NOT INTO THE LOBBY.  THE DOOR THEY WILL EXIT IS TO THE LEFT OF THE TICKET BOOTH AS YOU FACE “THE BOB” (the north side).

Also, it is the policy at the Bob Carpenter Center not to allow spectators onto the floor.  A professional photographer will take a picture of each graduate as he/she receives his/her diploma.

We look forward to continuing our tradition of graduation excellence.  We hope you enjoy the ceremony.
