GVHS Names Eric VanWyk as New Head Varsity Football Coach

PRESS RELEASE:

Garnet Valley High School names Eric VanWyk as New Head Varsity Football Coach

The Garnet Valley High School Athletic Department is excited to name Mr. Eric VanWyk as the new head varsity football coach. Coach VanWyk is a 2008 graduate of Garnet Valley High School, where he excelled in baseball and football. He was the quarterback and co-captain of the 2007 District 1 3A Championship team, which advanced to the PIAA 3A State Championship.  He continued his education at La Salle University where he lettered in baseball. After graduating From La Salle, Coach VanWyk returned to the Garnet Valley School District as a middle school social studies teacher and coach.

Coach VanWyk has led the freshman football program for the last ten years while simultaneously assisting at the varsity level. While leading the freshman program, Coach VanWyk introduced the core principles of our football program– selflessness, hard work, and character, and did a fantastic job preparing his players to move seamlessly to the varsity team.  His players routinely look back at their time with Coach VanWyk as one of the highlights of their athletic experience.

Coach VanWyk is currently a history teacher who uses his lessons to celebrate the past and to demonstrate that learning from those mistakes helps to create a better future.  He is a scholar who will embrace our rich history while preparing future generations of Jaguars to be successful not only in our football program but also, more importantly, in all facets of their lives.  Our student-athletes are fortunate to have Coach Eric VanWyk as the leader of our football program.

Coach VanWyk can be reached for comment at: vanwyke@garnetvalley.org.
